LOVE POEM #82 – RECKLESS

The mistake of falling for you

was the finest mess I’ve made

between the hours of four and five

in these reckless temporal mornings.

It was like riding on a runaway train

in the red-orange twilight sky

after a rainfall had left the tracks

a treacherous mass of rust.

CACTUS (AND OTHER HAIKUS)

Tunes

On the brown sedan,

in leather jeans, listening

to spellbinding songs.

Cat Hair

A haze of gray hair

harries the great purple chair

after Felix leaves.

Swing Set

Slowly, the swing turns

in the tired winter air

waiting for a friend.

Broken Chimes

Hanging from split strings,

the surviving metal pipes

hum a severed psalm.

Cactus

I caress the thorns

contemplating what creatures

made her so thick skinned.

LOVE POEM #11 – THORNS

Acanthogilia gloriosa

Is the species that best describes lovers.

Because, while they are not made without flaw,

They show balance between one another.

If you are reckless and pick them up quick,

Dead set on the scent of their sweet flower,

You will grasp at thorns and feel their prick

Until blood runs cold and love grows sour.

But if you take a moment to see them,

To look past the sharp thorns of their body,

You will find your way to a small, smooth stem,

And know they are more than just a poppy.

For a love that is devoid of thorns,

Is sure to die from the oncoming storms.
